Fighting Cellulite Removal? Cryolipolysis Can Help You Win the Battle

Cellulite affects a majority of the women at the post‐pubertal age. While this can affect any part of the body, the thighs and bottoms are the most common places of occurrence.   Some also get these on their bellies.

Although it is not considered as a pathological condition, for most of the individuals, it remains a grave aesthetic concern. Varieties of treatment protocols are there for cellulite removal. Cryolipolysis can give satisfying results in improving the appearance of the skin.

What is Cryolipolysis?

Cryolipolysis is a noninvasive procedure of removing fat by freezing. When you have cellulite there is a fat deposition underneath the skin. The procedure involves freezing and killing these fat cells for cellulite removal.

Fat cells are easily damaged in cold conditions than skin cells. If they are cooled to a temperature lying in between the body temperature and the freezing temperature, the fat cells undergo apoptosis or localized cell death. Based on this, it involves localized, controlled cooling to cause death to the subcutaneous fat tissues without damaging the skin. Read about the different cellulite removal treatments offered here:

How it is performed?

You can get Cryolipolysis done either in a doctor’s chamber or in an outpatient clinic. The doctor or the trained healthcare provider uses a handheld applicator that resembles a vacuum cleaner.

This procedure is performed in a fully awake condition. On appearing for the treatment, the patient is thoroughly examined for assessing the size and shape of the fatty deposits beneath the skin. The affected area to be treated is then outlined with a skin-making pencil.

The doctor or the healthcare provider then apply a gel and the applicator over the targeted area and move it over the skin. During the process, the applicator sucks and cools the area. The patient may feel aching, cramping, stinging, and tingling sensations and ultimately numbness in the area.

This treatment may take anything between 1 to 3 hours depending on the condition. Some clinics use separate applicators together to treat multiple areas in one sitting. The patient may listen to music, or read, or may work on the laptop while the procedure is on.

Once the process is over, the applicator is removed and the treated area is massaged for two to three minutes for ensuring breaking down of the fat cells.

Advantages of Cryolipolysis

  • Involves no surgical incision
  • Low-risk procedure
  • Can be done on people of all ages
  • Permanent fat removal

What are the post-treatment guidelines?

This simple procedure has no post-treatment guidelines except that you have to prevent weight gain. If your calorie intake is more than what you can burn off, it will cause fat deposition again. So, one must follow a healthy diet plan and do some exercises for maintaining the ideal weight.

When are the results noticeable?

Some people need more than one treatment procedure. Generally, improvement can be noticed within three weeks and you can have typical results after 2 to 3 months. But, flushing of the dead fat cells may continue up to 6 months.
